Boomer Yoga - an all levels flow class supporting the unique fitness and wellness needs of the Baby Boomer (+45) population. The flow will give a good physical workout, this is not a gentle class, but will honour safe alignment for healthy joints. At the end of every class, before relaxation, we practice the joy of slowing down.

Why Boomer Yoga?
It has been my experience of teaching 8-10 yoga classes a week, over the past 12 years that most of my students have been +45. Although I did not intentionally set out to cater specifically to this market, they are the ones who want to learn what I have been called to teach. I believe in teaching yoga to all the levels of our being – physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual.

This class is founded on the belief that Boomers are forging a new vision of what is needed to stay young, while growing older. In the past our parents or grandparents may have given in to the inevitability of being old and all that the concept implied. The truth is we are all aging, starting from the moment of birth. But here is the question to consider ... is our own aging process accelerated or slowed down? The health benefits of yoga are well documented and are particularly well suited for the concerns of midlife: it helps control weight, cholesterol and blood pressure; and weight bearing postures help build bone density. It helps improve joint health and physical functioning for those with Arthritis. Relaxation techniques help manage stress.

I personally feel that Yoga Philosophy has a lot of beautiful gems to help manage the ups and downs of life: acceptance of change, letting go of resistance, developing kindness and compassion for ourselves, living in the moment and finding our calm center. This allows us to find our own true nature, our true self and to radiate this vibrant emotional and mental health outward. This part of our life calls us to be more contemplative, calls us to be more reflective and to discover the deep wisdom and joy that is inherent within all of us.

“To launch a real “aging” revolution, we have to change not only how the world feels about us but how we feel about ourselves. It’s time to create a new story for ourselves, to invent a New Old, a new word for Boomers with Zip - and a new philosophy to go with it.”
